Theresa May is home secretary

I'm pretty certain that that is known as giving a dog a bone....

Congratulations and good luck Mr Cameron

Every now and again a new government gets elected.

Even more occasionally that new government does nothing but instil a feeling of dread and forebodeing.

The moment William Hague (trembling like a virgin who has realised she'll have to have sex to keep her boyfriend) announced the tories would allow a referendum on a form of proportional representation the outcome was pretty inevitable.

I personally thing that Nick Clegg will manage to tame a bit of the beast we might have had if the tories weren't quite so inept, but it's hard to be really optimistic. Particularly as the liberals and conservatives have stitched together a deal that will keep their coalition in power for five years.

That said (and really annoyingly) I have to wish them both success in reaching common ground and support from the general public - it's essential for us all that these boys are considerably smarter than they have appeared to be so far.

For everyone I know (literally, I've never met anyone that will admit to voting conservative) the next five years promise to be very long indeed.

To brighten things up (for me at least) I'm going to post something every weekday about the most idiotic politically related events or decisions that have happened. Replies are more than welcome (from any point of view), but if they are dull, verbose or stupid they'll get short shrift. The very rude, very smart or just plain funny are going to get a much easier ride.

Good luck messrs Cameron and Clegg - I want you to prove me very wrong indeed.
